Banjarbaru City lays in main trajectory of kota-kota in Kalimantan Selatan. Main joint streets of Kalsel namely Jalan Jendral Achmad Yani, splits Banjarbaru becomes 2 side. In general, Banjarbaru City abuts on other area in Kalimantan Selatan as follows :
Region boundary Banjarbaru City as follows : - North, abuts on Sub-District Martapura of Banjar District
- East, abuts on Sub-District Karang Intan of Banjar District
- West, abuts on dengaan Sub-District Gambut and Aluh-Aluh of Banjar District
- South, abuts on Sub-District Bati–Bati of District Tanah Laut
Based On Number [Code/Law] 9 The year 1999 Banjarbaru City divided to 3 ( three) Sub-District region and 12 ( twelve) Sub-District. Region wide Banjarbaru City is 371,30 km2 ( 37130 ha).
SOIL and LAND SITUATION
Region Banjarbaru City stays at height of 0–500 m from sea level, with height of :
- 0–7 m ( 33,49 %)
- 7-25 m ( 48,46 %)
- 25-100 m ( 15,15 %)
- 100-250 m ( 2,55 %) ; and
- 250-500 m ( 0,35 m)
As for condition of physical of soil which can be utilized to depict effective condition of growth of crop is ramp, effective depth of land, drainage, situation of soil erosion, explainable as follows :
- Classification of Ramp Banjarbaru City is ramp 0-2 % covers 59,35 % region wide, ramp 2-8 %, covers 25,78 % region, ramp 8-15% covers 12,08 % region.
- Classification of Effective depth of soil divided in four classes that is depth < 30 cm, 30-60 cm, 60-90 cm and > 90 cm. Banjarbaru City in general has effective depth more than 90 cm where perennial crop types will be able to grow and grows carefully.
- Drainage in Banjarbaru City pertained good, not happened flooding. But there are area suffused is periodic that is suffused less than 6 ( six) month, there is in Sub-District Landasan Ulin which is switchover of bog area ( rice field) in Sub-District Gambut and Aluh-Aluh.
Based On Ability Map of Soil Scale 1 : 25000, erosion is not happened in region Banjarbaru City. Based On Geology map the year 1970, rock in Banjarbaru City consisted of Alluvium ( Qha) 48,44 %, Martapura ( Qpm) 37,71 %, Binuang ( Tob) 3,64 %, Formation Kerawaian ( Kak) 2,26 %, Formation Pitap 3,47 %.
Soil type formed from inter alia soil-forming factors : source rock, climate, topography, vegetation and time. Every soil type has certain characteristic differentiating between one with other. The soil characteristic for example interconnected level of its sensitivity to erosion, soil fertility, soil texture and soil consistency.
Based on scale map 1 : 50000 published by The Institute of Research of Soil Bogor the year 1974, in region Banjarbaru City there is 3 ( three) soil species group that is Podsolik ( 63,82%), Lathosol ( 6,36%) and Organosol ( 29,82%)
